The Week: May 25, 2011
It is almost sunny today in Seattle. Given that this past spring has resembled (more or less) the climate one would find inside an old, wet sponge, I am thrilled. “Almost sunny” is good enough for me. So while I run around outside in a vain attempt to process Vitamin D, please enjoy the links of the The Week.

I am shocked by how much I agree with this list of 14 cover songs that are better than the originals. (It’s raining in Seattle right now – I know, when isn’t it? – and Cat Power’s Sea of Love is a perfect soundtrack for today).

Rand and I saw this exhibit of Tim Burton’s work at the MoMA last year, but were unable to take photos. Fortunately, Fast Company was able to put together a great montage of images (how I envy their press pass).

Abandoned since Katrina struck, the Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans has fallen into decay. The photos of it are haunting, sad, and entirely captivating.

Juliane Kopcke survived her plane exploding in mid-air (after it was struck by lightning), a subsequent fall to earth, and 9 days wandering in the Peruvian rain forest. She was 17 at the time. (Note to self: Never complain about air travel again.)

After thousands of years of living without natural predators, the jellyfish in a tiny lake in Palau evolved to the point where they lost most of their stinging ability. Check out adventurer Sarosh Jacob‘s amazing footage of swimming in the lake.
