Rand was in Hamburg last week, while I stayed home and watched American Idol. We were both happy with this arrangement, because he HATES American Idol, and I wasn’t quite feeling up to going to Germany for only two days. Also, I was able to learn that I kind of hate American Idol, too, and…

My trip to Palm Springs was nearly two months ago, but our travel schedule has been off to slow start in 2014 (or, rather, mine has), and there hasn’t been much else to blog about. So I figured I’d squeeze one last post from our trip, and it happens to be one of great significance. These…

The Week: February 21, 2014

You know that feeling, when you have so much work to do that your brain can actually process it so you just sit, slack-jawed, staring into the space or (as is my situation) your computer screen? That. I have that. A looming deadline, a pile of dirty laundry, an insurmountable number of papers to make…

Isn’t it kind of amazing how we occasionally forget that we’re all people? It happens all the time. We crowd into elevators, we cut people off in traffic, we curse at actors on TV when they’re wearing that new JCrew top that we couldn’t afford (okay, maybe I’m the only one that does that last…

Why I Won’t Be Going on Sponsored Trips

… but it’s cool if other people do.  I spent the whole weekend thinking about sponsored trips and the question that I posed to all of you on Friday. I read through the comments, I bugged friends about it, I spent long hours picking my husband’s brain. In the end, I think the issue boils…

The Week: February 14, 2014

Happy Valentine’s Day! In my younger years, I hated this holiday with a passion. Guess when that changed. Go ahead. Guess. Sometime around when this photo was taken, I’d say:   That’s me and Rand, on our first Valentine’s Day together, in 2002. Crazy, right? Needless to say, my feelings surrounding February 14 have changed a…

Should I Accept Sponsored Trips?

Hi guys! I’m dealing with an ethical quandary, and I’d love your help. I’ve recently received some awesome offers for sponsored trips. Now, I’ve gotten these for years from individual companies, hotels, and resorts, but I’ve only just started getting offers from Official Tourism Bureaus. While I’ve long resisted the former, because I feel like…

On Instagram @theeverywhereist

  • Take note: if you ask your husband if you can move to NYC roughly four dozen times, he will start to cave a little.
  • Incredible reading by the love of my life to a packed room at NeueHouse Madison Square. So proud of you, @randderuiter, and the amazing emcee work by @michaeliconking.
  • Re-posting this photo that @wilreynolds took of us and his youngest near the beach outside of Lisbon. We're back home now, and I can't decide what I miss more: this little guy and his brother, or Portugal. Actually, scratch that. I know.
  • This place looks like a damn fairy tale.
  • Lunch with a view of the water, and some of the best seafood of my life.
  • The entire drive from Sintra to Lisbon looks like this. It's just miles of blue sky and rocky beaches.
  • No filter. This is just what Sintra looks like.
  • This street artist does amazing collages of animals from hunks of discarded plastic he collects (part of an effort to raise awareness about some of the most vulnerable victims of pollution). They're all over Lisbon, but we managed to get a close up view of this one.
  • Thousand watt smile on the little dude, and I am done.
  • Those eyes though.

All Over The Place

Buy my book and I promise I'll never ask you for anything again.
