Remember me?

Okay, so it might be that I had completely intended to let you know about my holiday hiatus, before just, you know, taking it and not saying a damn thing.

Honestly, I’m surprised more of you weren’t worried about me. I could have fallen in a tryptophan-induced coma and none of you would have noticed.

Err, sorry. After a week with the family, the guilt mode is set to high. Switching off now.

I was in California for the holiday, enjoying some quality time with the  family, trying not to pull my hair out, and, as it turns out, not getting much blogging done at all. I only kind of feel guilty for that last part, since it seems the entire internet was taking a break. In fact, except for some crazy dude who tried to blow himself up over Detroit (seriously? Detroit?), and the tall drink of Dutch water that stopped him, everyone seems to have nestled into their beds to dream of sugar plums, and that’s alright with me.

So alright, in fact, that I’m taking another week off.

Yeah, you heard me. This will be my only post this week. I need a break from all the NOTHING that fills up my unemployed day. I’ll be back on January 4th, blogging up  a storm, but I need a few days to get several posts in the pipeline. Why? Because this next year is going to be insane. INSANE. I’m talking we-maxed-out-the-number-of-stops-Alaska-allows-you-to-have-during-a-multi-city-trip insane. Seattle to San Diego to Houston to New Orleans to San Jose to Seattle – that kind of crazy. We’ve got three weddings, two trips to Scotland, and our first trip to South America coming up in the next few months, and I need to start drinking now if I’m going to be ready for any of it.

So I’m off to make myself a margarita. If any of you know how to say, “more tequila” in Portuguese, please do fill me in. And in the meantime, I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and wish you a very happy new year.

See you in 2010.

  • So THAT’s where you went! While I didn’t exactly worry (because you seem very capable and not at all like the “oh-my-gawd-I’m-so-helpless-someone-please-rescue-me” type), I did wonder about it. Especially since you PROMISED to post every day…….ooops, sorry. Switching off my own guilt mode.

Looking forward to reading about all of your upcoming trips! Oh and I think the Portuguese is the same as in Spanish – “mas tequila, por favor”…but I think banging your empty shotglass on the bar is universal.

  • Enjoy the break! I sure did…except now I have about 300 blogs to catch up on.

  • I, for one, was very concerned about your departure but then I became distracted by something sparkly.

    • Geraldine

      Was it your toenails?

  • You pulled your hair out over family too? By the time I leave my in-laws tomorrow night, I may be bald.

  • More tequila! I like your style: mais tequila em português

    Enjoy your travels.

  • MG! I just saw a link to your blog from your boy Rand and I had to check it out because I’m starting a travel blog myself as I take off late February for Europe!

  • After the last train leaves, Venice becomes a ghost town. It's creepy and wonderful and obviously haunted.

  • Went to visit Mandova today, where a rich nobleman built a palace for his mistress. This room was where he took guests before the orgies. This revelation caught me by surprise, but Rand noted that there wasn't a lot else for rich people to do in the 16th century. It was mostly food and orgies.

  • I will never get over the fact that hundreds of years ago my ancestors built a city on water, and it is still here. Next time I doubt myself, I need to remember that anything is possible if you are willing to get your feet wet.
