The Week: April 12, 2013

I needed a good laugh or three this week. Below are a few links that made me smile.

I hope you enjoy them, too.

There is an adorable little mouse that is totally awesome. It eats scorpions and howls at the moon.

—————

Roger Ebert passed away last week. This prescient post about how he doesn’t fear death (written a year and a half ago!) is beautiful, heartbreaking, and comforting all at once.

—————

Just when I thought I couldn’t like the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs any more than I do, they went ahead and banned smart phones and camera devices from their shows. That’s kind of badass, is it not?

—————

The National Spelling Bee will now require contestants to know the definitions of the words they’re trying to spell. That’s kind of R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S, if you ask me.

—————

There is a Tumblr blog called My LL Bean Boyfriend. Its very existence makes me happy. (Via my pal Jessica.)

—————

Did you know that Canada has a potato museum? Or that North Dakota is home to an albino buffalo? Atlas Obscura, a site that chronicles some of the strangest travel destinations and sights on the planet, will have you muttering, “Wait … what?”, followed almost immediately by, “I have to go there.”

—————

This is my friends’ dog, barking at some peanut brittle. Because, you know, that’s a thing now.

—————

Shutterstock (yup, the stock photo people) created this rather brilliant piece of content marketing about Mad Men – comparing the world of 1963 to present day.

—————

I just spent an embarrassing amount of time on a website dedicated to recycled movie costumes, which is full of strange and fascinating sartorial trivia from films and television. Remember the pink dress that Glenda the Good Witch rocked in the original Oz? It was used again in another movie.

—————

My friend Deanna wrote this absolutely beautiful post for World Autism Day about her daughter (who was recently diagnosed). As she notes, it’s not a sad story. In fact, reading it might just make your day.

—————

The doodles and drawings of artist Gemma Correll are positively delightful and – bonus – FULL OF PUGS. Go check them out.

—————

Have a great weekend, guys. I’ll be back on Monday.
