It’s March. That’s the month that supposedly comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, right? But in Seattle, March comes in more like a slug (or possibly a damp mop) and goes out pretty much the same way.

However, right now? It is not raining. I mean, it will probably start in the next four minutes or so, but in the meantime, I’m going to rush outside and play in the sunshine not rain. You enjoy these links. :)

A medieval manuscript, peed on by a medieval cat. Some things never do change, eh?

The 2013 World Press Photo Awards have been announced. I could write a thousand words about each image on the subject, but these four will suffice: they are all breathtaking.

I’m sorry that blogging has not been regular. Life has been crazypants (I think that’s the technical word for it). I promise, things will normalize after next Wednesday.

Why Wednesday? Because that’s when I’m speaking at Ignite Seattle, and the crazy monkey on my back that keeps screeching and pulling my hair will finally be caged (or euthanized. Whatever).

If you are in town, please consider attending.

I’m off to go practice my talk. You enjoy these links.

This might be the most meta Tumblr, ever: Pictures of Hipsters Taking Pictures of Food. Despite being guilty of this myself, I laughed.

I might be a day late on this, but they’re still magical: Wes Anderson valentines.

I’m sorry that the blog has been so thin after the last few weeks. South Africa was amazing and all-engrossing, and took me away from my email and the site for quite a while. And even though we got back on Monday (at least, I think it was Monday. Who knows, really), I’m still not quite over my jet-lag. Last night, I slept for 10 whole hours, starting at 9pm.

So now that I finally feel somewhat awake, I realize that I have loads to do. Loads of email. Loads of household chores. Loads of laundry (that one works on two levels!)

I’m off to tend to all those things I neglected while chasing after zebras. While I do that, you enjoy these links.

Whoa. By juxtaposing different images of faces together, we can make them appear distorted and grotesque. Check out what it does to celebrities’ faces, and shudder at the thought of how we mere mortals would look.

This one just hurts my brain: Flight attendants question a man because they think his t-shirt alludes to a potential terrorist threat. Because … it features a quote from The Princess Bride.

There’s a fog over my town. It’s been here for days. It hangs outside my window this evening, and will be there tomorrow when I wake up. Everything has been transformed by it. People vanish into and out of the mist; I don’t recognize my street, have trouble picking out the outline of my home.

It leaves me unsure of what to do. Should I go out and explore this strange new world at my doorstep? Or continue to enjoy the warmth of my home and the comfort of my pajamas and – oh, look! I still have some cookies left from that batch I baked the other night.

I guess we know how this will end. (Spoiler: I’m going to nibble on a biscuit or three. You enjoy these links.)

If you haven’t seen Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s intro to the Golden Globes, watch it immediately. Trust me: you need more of them in your life.

Ah, the waffleizer. Where different foods are placed in a waffle iron to determine, um, … if they’ll waffle, I guess. Because … Because AMERICA! Yeah.

It is so bright in my office (what is this thing that’s happening right now? Sun … shine? I think that’s what it’s called) that I’m actually squinting. SQUINTING. In Seattle. In January.

I need to get outside immediately and soak up some Vitamin D. But before I run off, I wanted to share this week’s links with you. Enjoy.

I have the biggest girl crush on artist Kate Beaton. Her comics are delightful (and I’m pretty sure I’ve given them a shout-out on the blog before). Where else can you find mermaids brushing up on their Michael Jackson?

A former TSA screener answers the question on the mind of many frequent fliers: how do TSA agents feel working for an agency that is so despised?

It is three days until Christmas. CHRISTMAS. There is just over a week left in 2012.

This has taken me somewhat by suprise (fear not: I am dealing with it adequately. Yesterday I had two salted caramel ice creams). I feel like the holiday season came up while I was in the middle of telling a story (because, really, what else is a blog other than someone taking waaaay too long to get to the point?)

I still have loads to share with you about our trips from this past year, but then – BAM – Christmas music instantly started playing and there was tinsel everywhere.

And I sit here thinking, ”Excuuuuuse me, Holiday Season 2012, but I was SAYING SOMETHING MARGINALLY IMPORTANT.” Sheesh.

I HAVE HOLIDAY SHOPPING TO DO.

Please excuse me while I go freak out. Christmas is in 11 days. Hanukkah is basically over. To everyone in my life: let’s just pretend that my love is gift enough, okay? It’s like an Amazon gift card for your heart or something like that.

On with the links!

I started typing the title to this post and thought, “No, it can’t be December already. It’s like, mid-October, at the latest.”

Sigh. For the record, I also think it’s 2005.

While I find a calendar and struggle to accept the cruel and relentless marching on of time, you enjoy these links.

A flight attendant reveals the shocking list of things that passengers have requested. One guy inquired as to where he could pleasure himself. Ewww. I only hope he wiped out the lavatory basin as a courtesy to the next passenger.
