The Week: June 1, 2012

It was a dark week here in my hometown. We’ve had more shootings in the last six months than we had in all of 2011. The last rampage (which ended in the shooter killing himself) happened in my and Rand’s old neighborhood of Roosevelt.

It has me questioning the safety of my quiet little burg, which is not something I often do. So in an effort to get my mind on other things, here are some of my favorite, smile-inducing links from this week.

—————

Man tries to pay for Denny’s bill with a bag of marijuana (TOO MANY JOKES. Brain … overloading …)

—————

It was true when The Three Amigos came out, and it’s still true today: Martin Short is amazing.

—————

This is so strange and so darn delightful: baseball photography from the 1800s. (I would pay money to see some of today’s greats recreate these shots.)

—————

The Green Lantern is Gay … but it’s not Hal Jordan? I’m confused. Whatever. Progress is progress, and I’m so going to buy the heck outta that comic.

—————

Actor Ron Livingston uploaded this video of himself impersonating (in-cat-onating?) the keyboard cat. I … I have no words. Just watch it.

—————

My friend Dan is one of thirteen children. Let me say that again: he is one of THIRTEEN CHILDREN. He gets a lot of delightfully strange questions about it. And in a recent post, he answers all of them.

You will not believe the origins of ketchup.

—————

A radio show aired in the 1970s about the Fantastic Four and – wait for it – Bill Murray was the voice of The Human Torch (with Stan Lee doing narration). Take a listen. It’s AMAZING. Or maybe fantastic is a better word.

A former Lucky magazine editor turns into a blogger. Welcome to the show, my dear.

—————

And because I’m on a comic book bender (thanks to Joss Whedon), here’s what Superman discusses with his therapist.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend, folks.
